As the days until Touchdown Atlantic comes to town keep shrinking, the city is promoting a weekend which is sure to be a treat for everyone involved.
The Pigskin Soirée will take place the night before the Sept. 25 Canadian Football League clash between the Calgary Stampeders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium. Organizers are predicting the event will be an enjoyable night for all.
"This is a Scotiabank-sponsored event including an evening of food and entertainment," said Amy Richard, committee member for the event.
"It will really celebrate the Touchdown Atlantic being back in Moncton."
Scotiabank has been sponsoring the Grey Cup Galas since 2006, and this is the second year the event will be coming to Moncton.
The night will be chalk full of CFL personalities, and will be hosted by Newfoundland comedian Trent McClellan. The night features a meet and greet, a four-course dinner prepared by Delta Beauséjour, and entertainment for all.
"Once again, there will be a silent auction with impressive packages to bid on, with all proceeds benefiting local amateur football," said committee co-chair Brent Scrimshaw .
"The Pigskin Soirée is a celebration of local food and entertainment, topped off by the fact that profits go back to help amateur football right here in our region."
But the committee couldn't have events with this large a scope without local support.
"We've been fortunate to have so many fans jumping on board for events like this. The tickets will sell out. It grows every year," said Richard.
"This really shows that this side of the country can support a CFL team also," she said.
"We want to show the entire country we can produce top-notch entertainment and events. The city of Moncton can definitely pull this off. This shines a spotlight on the city economically and from a tourism standpoint."
Richard said that there are still tickets left, and the event is open to "all football fans out there."
The Pigskin Soirée will take place on Saturday, September 24 at the Delta Beauséjour Hotel.
Tables of 10 are available for $2,500. Special tables, that include 10 best-in-stadium Platinum tickets for the Touchdown Atlantic game, are priced at $3,200. Half table options are available as well.
